State Bank of India (SBI), with a 200 year history is the largest bank in India, with group assets of US$370 billion (as of 31 March 2011). With a network of over 19,000 branches in India and 157 overseas offices in over 30 countries across Asia, Middle East, Europe, North America, Africa and Australia, SBI has been playing a major role in fulfilling the global aspirations of Indian Corporations.

SBI set up its operations in Singapore with an offshore banking licence in 1977. SBI was granted Qualifying Full Bank (QFB) privileges by the Monetary Authority of Singapore (MAS) in 2008. SBI has since launched a suite of retail banking products which complements its existing corporate banking products. Apart from offering banking products such as savings and checking accounts, high yield fixed deposits, home loans, instant remittances services and Unit Trust, SBI also offers innovative deposit products like Multi-Options Deposits (MODs) and MultiSweep. In addition, SBI has collaborated with insurance
companies - NTUC Income and Manulife to offer comprehensive insurance products to its customers.
Under its QFB privileges, the bank has opened seven retail branches and installed fourteen offsite ATMs in various parts of Singapore. It has also joined the QFB ATM network commonly referred to as atm5 in September 2009, which expanded the bank's outreach to over 130 ATMs island wide.
SBI's Singapore operation covers Sri Lanka, Malaysia, Thailand and Vietnam. A centralised syndication and participation team is active in coordinating and marketing syndication deals across Asia, Africa and Australia
